Rubber and polyurethane are known to be elastomeric materials. Rubber being particulate material can be compressed and vulcanised together may be good with respect to cost but swells due to solvents, fillers such as graphite/carbon may hamper print quality, whereas non filler composition in rubber becomes to give smooth ground finish.

Polyurethanes being liquid cast system can generate continuous film and can be modified with proper selection of polyester/polyether and special plasticizers. ‘Best of adsorption than absorption’ is the polyurethane roller specialty. Industries like, can coating, printing, metal decoration, plywood coating are benefited due to quality transfers.

Adequate pick up and accurate release decides the effective ‘Transfer’ phenomenon.

Roller required to be used for such typical application should have following characteristics:

·           High resistance to printing inks, coating solutions, cleaning solvents and oils

·           Excellent resistance to abrasion and tear

·           Wide range of stable hardnesses from 20to 60 shore A

·           Excellent resistance to compression set

·           Easy machinability providing extremely smooth surfaces

·           Good capacity to bear tension/compression/shear
